In Japan,life-styles of the people have been diversified and individualized,and everybody inclines toward the creation of a "beautiful,pleasant and worthful life". Under these circumstances,demand for jewellery has been increasing certainly both in quality and quantity. In order that the jewellery industry in this country may achieve sound development, it is indispensable to provide consumers with high-quality products and precise information of them from the viewpoint of consumers. Since the industry depends on overseas in almost all of its raw materials, it is necessary to make efforts in such activities as improvement of trade rules from an international viewpoint,and it has become increasingly important to conduct these activities not only on the level of individual enterprises,but also on that of the industry as a whole or on that of the govemment. For conducting these activities, Japan Jewellery Association(JJA)(Corporation) was established in 1988 by the approval of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Since then,under the guidance of relating ministries and agencies and with the support of people concerned in the industry and aiming at the realization of better environment for the industry and establishment of the industrial basis, JJA has been actively carrying out following major businesses and other activities of individual committees. JJA is operated with the membership fees paid by members. We hope that as many enterprises as possible will participate in JJA to support it for the development of the industry.
