November 11( the day when"carat "was designated as a weighing unit in Japan in 1909) has been named as "Jewellery Day", and the Jewellery Day Campaign has been conducted since 1986. Toward the year-end greatest demand season, centering on November 11 each year, such activities have been carried out: as enlightening people on jewellery through massmedia such as newspapers,magazines and television: and sales promotion activities conducted jointly by member enterprises.
∧ Page TopFor contributing to the progress of the jewellery industry and the expansion of trade of member enterprises,we hold Japan Jewellery Fair (JJF) in September every year toward the demand season after autumn and provide the forum for displays of products and business talks,information exchange and other trade activities. We also support the International Jewellery Tokyo (IJT) in January as its cosponsor.
∧ Page TopQualificatin examination of jewellery coordinators
In order to cultivate talents who have abilities to sell jewellery by giving proper advice to consumers and customers responding to their consultation in selecting and purchasing jewellery, we have been conducting since 1997 the qualification examination for the third-class jewellery coordinator (JJA-JC), and since 1999 the examination for the second-class coordinator. Persons who have passed the examination and made registration have been given certificates and certification cards as JJA-JCs. For examinees' convenience of learning,we have edited texts for third-class and second-class coordinators and distribute them.
∧ Page TopJewellery contests, efforts for improvement of skills and techniques
We hold jewellery contests every other year for encouraging and discovering products and producers excellence in creativity and technique and improving skills. We also actively cooperate in the craftsmen examination system for training craftsmen and various competitions of skills, and make efforts for improvement of jewellery production techniques in such areas as jewellery production manuals and unification of technical terms. Furthermore, we have been cooperating in the standardization including the preparation of the draft of standards in the jewellery sector of Japan's Industrial Standards (JIS).

We make open various kinds of information of imported jewels including the classification method of appraisals of jewellery and unification of expressions in grading reports(written appraisal) (information disclosure of jewellery). For reliability improvement of color grading of diamond,we provide a master stone by colors for convenience of members and appraiser companies. Enlightenment books for consumers easily to understand jewellery are edited and distributed to deepen the recognition and diffuse the knowledge of jewellery. A quality mark (hall mark) system to take the responsibility of displaying precious metals'base meatal quality (purity) of jewellery has been made and its diffusion has been promoted. As a measure for the PL (Products Liability) Law enforced in 1995,we have unified the description to call consumers' attention in wearing jewellery and distributed it as a "warning expression" with the size to be attached to the product to prevent accidents in wearing jewellery.
